BAPTISM

Go then, to all people everywhere and make them My disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and then teach them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Matthew 28:19-20

not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God - 1 Peter 3:21

Baptism is an important step of faith for those who claim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their life. Salt City Underground practices baptism by immersion, as demonstrated by Jesus himself, as a form of professing our faith publicly. The salvation of our souls has already been accomplished. We get in the water as a response to the finished work on the cross.

FAQs

What is Baptism?
We respond to God's free gift of salvation by believing in Jesus Christ to save us. We demonstrate our belief by surrendering to Christ's leadership and authority over our lives and by being immersed in water and raised out of the water (baptized) in His name. [Acts 2:38]
Why should I be baptized?
To obey the command of Christ.
[Matthew 28:19-20]

To identify with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.
[Romans 6:3-5]

As a pledge toward God.
[1 Peter 3:20-21]
Is baptism necessary for my salvation?
Salvation – the forgiveness of sins – cannot be earned, but is given to us only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. [Matthew 26:28; Romans 5:1-11; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-10; Hebrews 10:19-22; 1 Peter 1:18, 19; 1 John 1:7].

The New Testament directs everyone to respond to God by admitting their sin and their need for God’s grace [Romans 3:23; Titus 3:3-7], believing and confessing the truth about Jesus [Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:9, 10] pointing their lives away from sin [“repenting” – Luke 24:45-47; Acts 3:19; 17:30], trusting Jesus as Savior and LORD [Romans 10:11-13; Philippians 2:11], and being baptized (immersed in water) into Christ [Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-4].
What if I have already been baptized?
You can be re-baptized, but it is not necessary unless you feel you were baptized in a cult, or against your will.
How do I know if baptism is my next step?
If you've put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and haven't been baptized, this is likely your next step. We see baptism as a natural result of faith throughout the book of Acts.
Do I have to attend Salt City Underground Church to be baptized?
No, you do not have to be a member of Salt City Underground to be baptized.
What does the Bible say about baptism?
Jesus was baptized and is our example of baptism [Matthew 3:13-16].
Baptism represents a cleansing of sins [Acts 2:38].
It is a fresh start [John 3:1-8].
The image of baptism identifies us with Jesus' death burial and resurrection [Romans 6:1-14].
When baptized we are united with Christ and in turn aligned with His church [Ephesians 4:1-6].
When early Christians came to faith they were baptized immediately [Acts 8:26-40].
Who can baptize me?
It is most biblical for an already baptized Believer to baptize someone.
Who will be there when I get baptized?
Whoever you want! We do encourage you to invite your family and friends to attend your baptism and service, as it is very special and a great way to share your faith with your loved ones.
How should I prepare to be baptized?
Wear shorts and a top or swim wear. Something you don't mind getting wet.

A towel and a change of clothes is always a good idea to have on hand for afterwards.

If you feel led, we might ask you to share some words on why you are getting baptized and what the Lord is doing in your heart and life. You will then be asked two questions: "Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?" and "Do you accept Him as the Lord of your life?"
