We are a people, not a place

We believe the best place to discover God is in community. We are happy to connect with you, over messenger, phone or in person. We are also willing to coach you to start working through the Discovery Bible Study with your own network of friends. 

We are

We are not a building, or a service, but a people. We are organized to help you know God and start new gospel communities.

What our name means

Our name comes from Matthew 5:13-16 where Jesus tells his disciples to live as SALT and light. Salt to bring flavor to the world and something that lights up the darkness like a CITY on a hill.

Matthew 5:13-16
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

We call ourselves Salt City because we believe when we live our identity in Christ we will bring life and light to those around us.

We are UNDERGROUND, because we have a value of looking like the 1st century church. We want to stay light and nimble, a decentralized network of churches filled with God's Spirit. 

We Value Going out

I am sending you out like "Sheep Among Wolves" Matthew 10:16NIV

Certainly Jesus' goal here wasn’t to offend all the people he was sending his disciples to go talk with by calling them "wolves", rather he was telling his disciples that if they were going to follow him they would have to leave the comfort of their own security to go out to new places where they will certainly experience some rejection at the minimum
We have a desire to go into every neighborhood in Salt Lake. We will send one of our missionaries to your neighborhood and help you start a bible study in your community we want to come and help. 

We focus on Gods word

Instead of lecture style bible teaching, we believe God is our best teacher, Jesus said this in John 6:45  " It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me." John 6:45

We practice Discovery Bible Study to learn from God's Word and practice obedience based on what God says rather than just trying to understand what is said alone.

Our church services are simple and are usually very small. Instead of gathering weekly in a larger meeting, we value meeting weekly in smaller church expressions mostly in homes, Monthly for prayer and worship with a medium sized group and 5 times per year for large gatherings to celebrate.
