How Do I Know if it's God's Voice?
When you pause to listen, you may wonder: “Is this God, just my own thought, or something else?” The good news is that Scripture gives us clear ways to test what we hear. Below are five simple questions to help you discern the Spirit’s voice.
4. Does it encourage and call me forward?
God’s voice builds up courage, hope, and purpose. It moves us toward loving action, forgiveness, and blessing others. The enemy tears down, discourages, and paralyzes. God strengthens and sends. (See Romans 15:4–5 &13, Philippians 2:13, Micah 6:8, and Joshua 1:9.)
5. Does it find confirmation in community?
When you share what you sense with trusted believers who also listen to God, does it resonate with them? True words invite humility, openness, and testing. They will align with the Spirit in others who seek to follow Jesus. Be cautious of any “word” that isolates you or resists being tested. (See Galatians 2:2 & 9, 1 Thessalonians 5:19–21, and Proverbs 11:14.)
